If you had to put your money on someone to represent you at a Criminal Trial, Appeal, Bail etc. then Senior Advocate Shri Amit Desai would probably be your best bet. Having honed his skills with some of the legends of Mumbai Bar Mr. Desai has established himself as one of the Top Criminal Lawyer in the Country and somewhat of a celebrity himself. He is son of a famous Advocate Late Shri Krishna Kant Desai of Mumbai and is himself the 3rd Generation Lawyer in the family. In his early times when he was very young and after joining the legal profession had good fortune of working with some of the stalwarts like NaniPalkhiwala, Ashok Sen, Khursetji Cooer and some of the finest civil and commercial Lawyers of Mumbai and Delhi. He was present in one of the most fascinating experiences as a Junior was to be part of the largest Corporate battle of 1980s i.e. LIC vs. Escorts and had also assisted Mr. K. The Grandfather of Mr. Amit Desai started his legal practice way back in 1911, he was a leading Criminal Lawyer of his times and a Corporator with Bombay Municipal Corporation. It has become almost 70 years that family of Mr. Desai is practicing criminal law therefore Mr. Desai has a naturally good approach in criminal cases.

Mr. Desai was a bright scholar since beginning and he attained a Degree of Bachelor of Commerce from Sydenham College of Commerce. His concept of Law became further clear when he did internship with BhaiRege and DilipUdeshi of Crawford Bailey, Senior Advocate Mr. Ashok Modi, SobhanaThakore of Bhaishankar Kanga and Girdharlal.

Mr. Amit Desai worked very hard in all the field of Law with his father and never let him down in searching a good Case Law as and when required. But he found a mentor in Suresh Shroff of Amarchand and Mangaldas Law firm. During his initial years of practice he struggled a lot and coolly accepted his share of failures and again and again refined and corrected himself but coming from a legal family helped Mr. Desai to persevere with patience and focus.

During 1985 Corporate saw many raids leading to Income Tax, Foreign Exchange, Customs and Excise litigations. These cases drew Mr. Amit Desai into the field of Criminal Law which interestingly involved complex issues of Civil Law along with Criminal Law implications. He also learned great lessons of legal practice from old Criminal Lawyers of Bombay like Late Shri Hari Bhai Desai, Late Shri Krishna moorthy, Late Shri Peerbhoy, Late Shri PP Khambata and Late Shri Godivala.

He was the main Lawyer who argued the famous case of hit and run of Actor Salman Khan in Bombay High Court and got victory. Mr. Amitdesai is basically an Advocate (Senior Advocate) of Bombay High Court and lives in Mumbai but some timesgoes to Supreme Court to argue any rare matter as and when required.
